PESEL

PESEL Number is the national identification number used in Poland (pol. Powszechny Elektroniczny System Ewidencji Ludności, eng. Universal Electronic System for Registration of the Population). It identifies just one person and it always has 11 digits, The PESEL number is mandatory for all permanent residents of Poland and for temporary residents living in Poland for over 2 months.

If you are a foreigner living in Poland, and you have registered your residence in Poland for a stay of over 30 days, you will obtain a PESEL Number automatically. If you cannot register your residence, and any office requires a PESEL Number from you, you need to submit an application with the municipality office.

The documents should be submitted to the City Hall in one of the Residential Service Centres, after making an appointment reservation via the website.

Remember to bring with you a document, which confirms your identity and other data entered in the application form.
